Biography of Caravaggio (Michelangelo Merisi)
(1571 - 1610)
Undoubtedly among the most "revolutionary" artists of all time for the overwhelming disruptive force of his works compared to contemporary pictorial theories and techniques.
Michelangelo Merisi known as Caravaggio had a very particular fate - early glory, an adventurous life, an early end, alone and miserable - which have turned him into a legendary figure, fascinating and damned, capable of influencing posterity for three centuries, although much of this was also owed to a strongly romanticised and simplified version of his biography.
